Abstract:

The observational study of radio transient sources associated with Gamma-ray Bursts and X-ray binaries involves high-resolution and high-sensitivity radio observations of these short-lived events using the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) near Sydney. Successful radio detections will be followed up by the network of telescopes in Australia using the technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). Part of this PhD project also involves working towards technical developments for real-time VLBI or e-VLBI.
