Facilities
Students studying astronomy in their Physics Degree have access to a number of facilities both on- and off-campus. These include our Small Radio Telescope and Optical Telescope installations as well as such prestigious facilities as the Perth Observatory, the Murchison Radio-Astronomy Observatory (MRO), and the iVEC supercomputing laboratories.
Teaching Facilities
The teaching facilities primarily consist of the Small Radio Telescope and the Optical Telescope installations. These are used in radio astronomy and optical astronomy course units and student project work as well as being available for our education and outreach programs.
Research Facilities
People engaged in research within the University can obtain access to the Perth Observatory telescopes, radio astronomy facilities at the Murchison Radio-Astronomy Observatory and the iVEC supercomputing laboratories. The Remote Sensing & Satellite Research Group (RSSRG) also boasts an Optical Calibration Laboratory which allows optical instruments to be calibrated against a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) source.
